North Vancouver Board of Education

The North Vancouver School Board is composed of seven elected members. The electors of the District of North Vancouver elect four members of the Board of Education (Trustees Back, Bouman, Forward, and Stratton) and the electors of the City of North Vancouver elect three members (Trustees Buchanan, Skinner, and Tasi). The Board is collectively responsible for making the major policy decisions governing all aspects of education within the School District as mandated in the School Act.
The primary functions of the Board of Education are:

to set local policy for the effective and efficient operation of schools

to approve local courses and textbooks

to hire and assign teachers, supervisory personnel and administrative officers

to establish teachers' conditions of work
-
to manage school district property
-
to prepare and approve operating and capital budgets.
Regularly scheduled School Board meetings are held monthly during the school year and are open to the public.
Each Board member assumes a liaison role with a number of schools in the District. The Board of Education may be contacted through the school's Parent Advisory Council, at School Board meetings, or through the Superintendent's office .
Guiding Principles 2009/2011
Through a series of meetings, the Board of Education has developed and aligned its goals (guidelines) to fit within the framework of the North Vancouver School District's Vision statements. The following guidelines, adopted by the Board at its October 13, 2010 public meeting, reflect the consensus of the Board:
