The North Vancouver School District is pleased to announce that Capilano Elementary has been designated an IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) candidate school by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). The PYP is a school-wide programme of international education that is inquiry-based, transdisciplinary, and globally significant.
This approval allows Capilano staff and administration access to the IB curriculum centre, which offers over 3,000 education resources, online access to subject area experts and discussion sessions with IB teachers around the world.
Becoming an IB school requires leadership and dedication from everyone at a school. The commitment shown at Capilano Elementary for advancing the Primary Years Programme, and everyone who has undertaken IB training and developing new units of inquiry for all grade levels, is a great credit to the School District.
Staff at Capilano Elementary will proceed, in June, with the final stage of application towards full accreditation. With this progress at Capilano Elementary, the North Vancouver School District is now one step closer to full accreditation in offering a continuum of IB programmes from K -12. Carson Graham is already accredited to offer the IB Diploma Programme, while Balmoral Jr. Secondary is a candidate school for the Middle Years Programme. Full designation for Balmoral is anticipated later this year, and is transferrable should the school consolidate with Carson Graham Secondary.
