As you noticed the conditions were perfect and our High School regatta went with off without a hitch. This year we had eight local North Shore Schools participate including: Seycove, Argyle, Handsworth, Windsor, Balmoral, Carson Graham, STA and Collingwood. This year Seycove was represented by 36 rowers and they performed exceptionally! There are two trophies awarded each year and Seycove won the overall points trophy and came within 1% of winning the overall efficiency trophy, as well. Look for the team's trophy for display in the trophy cabinet.
The following individual Seycove students ranked exceptionally well this weekend:
Gold medals – Seycove:
Grade 9/10 boys, single skull – Patrick H. Grade 11/12 boys, double – Patrick H. and Cam T. Grade 9/10 girls – single skull – Devon O. Grade 9/10 girls – double – Devon O., Brynn D. Grade 9/10 girls – quad – Devon O., Amelia H., Sara B., Carolyn W. (Patrick C. – Coxswain)
Second and Third place – Seycove:
Seycove also had 8 second places and two third places.
Our coaching staff will be completing the required Evaluations for each Seycove student within the next two weeks. These evaluations will be forwarded as soon as they are ready.
Other Regattas – Seycove “elite” student participants:
As an aside, we have a number of very talented Seycove rowers who are part of the “club elite” – many of these rowers competed in Victoria last weekend in two “head races”. A head race is one that is particularly long in distance – last Saturday’s race on the Gorge waterway in Victoria was about 6 km, and last Sunday’s race at Elk/Beaver Lake was just over 9 km. In both these races, several American teams were also represented.
The Club’s results were excellent in both these events. Our grade 9/10’s (women) placed first and second in the respective races, and they were competing in the same category as the 11/12s. Our grade 11/12’s (men and women) won two firsts, one second and one third in their respective races. Many of the students participating in these races were from Seycove.
These same students will also be competing in Seattle next weekend in the two final races of the season (“Frost Bite” at Green Lake, and “Head of the Lake” at Lake Washington) – we’ll let you know of these results when they are available.
The Seycove kids who row in the club elite varsity boats and participate in these two out-of-town regattas are:
Grade 11/12 (women and men):
Raewyn D., Cam T., Alex C.
Grade 9/10 (women and men):
Amelia H., Devon O., Patrick H., Patrick C.
Grade 8 (rowing up a level, with 9/10s):
Brynn D. & Stephen D.
