Urban Agriculture

Argyle's Social Justice 12 Urban Agriculture initiative will create a collaborative food garden that will be used and maintained by all students, teachers and community members. This project will create an enriched experiential learning environment, help foster essential food and nutritional practical skills and allow for more community engagement. The food garden will enable the students and teachers to contribute to local food security by donating some of the harvest to the Edible Garden Project or Quest Food Services. Improving the Argyle school-grounds with this healthy garden will positively affect the health of the community, the environment and the individuals who benefit from the donated produce. From the Social Justice Class, to Math, Biology, Shop and the Foods classes will all be able to access and learn with this garden. Actively involving faculty, students and community will allow for a more dynamic and direct connection with local food security and will teach how to organically grow, care for, harvest and eat nutritiously. The seed to table and back again approach (through composting and seed-saving) is a practical application of sustainability which aligns with the objectives of the School District of North Vancouver 44.

Firefighter For A Day

Five of our Argyle students got a glimpse of what it is like to be a firefighter when they took part in the 'Firefighter For A Day' program, put on by the North Vancouver Fire Department.

Congratulations Argyle

"Applying What They Learn"

Comparative Civilization 12 students who are currently studying India were happy to have guest Shahira Tejpar in their classes. They learned how put a sari on, apply mendi to their hands and dance with Bollywood moves.

Way To Go Gang!

We really do have some great kids in this school! Every year the 4 seasons downtown hosts an event to raise $150,000 for BC's Children's Hospital by holding a Christmas tree decorating contest. Each tree entry costs $3000 and 50 businesses buy these for charity. Somebody has to be behind the scenes setting everything up. This year 15 of our Argyle students  helped out for 5 hours making the contest possible.

We Day

On October 13th Mr Wong's Social Justice Class participated in WE Day, that was held at Rogers Arena.  Below are a few pictures of the event:

Terry Fox Run

Argyle held their annual Terry Fox Run under cloudy skies and a few sprinkles on Friday, September 23. Most of the school walked or ran a route of about 2 km and raised over $1500 for cancer research! Well done, Argyle!

Hunger Slumber

Schools for Africa sponsored their largest hunger slumber to date on October 20th. 77 students raised at least $50 and went without food for 30 hours so that they could stay overnight at the school. Movies in the theatre, monopoly in the library and games in the gym kept them busy with the lights finally going out at 1:30 am. As always, Mr. Ruben played alarm clock with his 6:00am guitar playing. Everyone awoke to donated muffins, fruit, and juice from Safeway and Save-on-Foods. Thank you teachers, Paul Ruben Heather Reid, Daylen Luchsinger, Bryan Lockless, Meagan Roberge, Katherine Sigurdsson, Dave McGerrigle and Danica Silver for volunteering their time. We also want to thank all of our sponsors, with special recognition going to Save-on-Foods Lynn Valley for giving us over $200 worth of breakfast. The money raised went to the Kenyan Girls Scholarship Fund and to help finance the contruction of a school in Burkina Faso.
