Kindergarten programs
In the North Vancouver School District, we believe that Kindergarten is more than an introduction to school. Kindergarten provides students with opportunities to explore their curiosity about the world around them and nurture their own abilities to learn new things. The learning environment of our Kindergarten classrooms promotes school readiness by encouraging the social, emotional, physical, verbal and academic development of children in a safe and welcoming environment.

To meet the diverse needs of our communities, the North Vancouver School District offers a variety of Kindergarten programs. Our Kindergarten programs follow the B.C. curriculum and bring together our youngest learners for self-initiated and teacher-led activities which support the development of cooperative and thoughtful students through play-based learning.

Kindergarten Parent Information Meeting Presentation - October 24, 2012

Registering for Kindergarten 
Children who turn 5 by December 31st of the school year are eligible to be registered for Kindergarten. Please contact NVSD Central Registration at 604.903.3368 for complete registration information or visit the student registration page.

French Immersion Kindergarten
Early French Immersion is offered at select elementary schools in the North Vancouver School District. The program begins at the Kindergarten level, with most of the instruction being provided from Kindergarten through Grade 2, in French.

International Baccalaureate  Primary Years Programme at Capilano Elementary
Capilano Elementary is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) * from Kindergarten through Grade 7.  The IB Primary Years Programme will be introduced at Queen Mary Elementary School in September 2013.

Special Needs and Kindergarten
We believe in a philosophy of inclusion that begins in Kindergarten and carries on through a student’s school years. Our staff and specialists work to ensure that all students, have the opportunity to be educated in classroom environments
