DL Frequently Asked Questions:

What happens after I submit my registration form? How long do I have to wait to start the course?

Please allow up to a week to process your registration information. You will receive an e-mail with the url for the site, username and password information.

Who is my teacher?

Teachers’ names, courses taught, and e-mail addresses are available on the nvsd44.bc.ca website. Click on “distributed learning” and then click on “contact us”.

Are the courses web-based?

The courses are held in what is called a “Learning Management System” or LMS, called Moodle. The Moodle site is accessed via the web, but is a private site for teachers and online students only. It is not open to the public.

Are DL courses the same as taking a “face-to-face” class?

Yes, Distributed Learning courses follow the same Ministry of Education curriculum as face to face classes.

How long does it take to complete an online course?

Online courses are self-paced. Students work at their own speed based on their schedules and availability. Students are encouraged to complete their online course by June 1. We suggest that you hand in assignments bi-weekly.

How do I write tests and exams?

When you are ready to take a test or exam, contact your teacher. He or she can arrange for you to come to the DL Centre, located at 2132 Hamilton Avenue, Room 204 to complete your test or exam. A DL Centre schedule will be posted in your course. If you are unable to come to the DL Centre, we can arrange invigilation at another site.

How do I contact my teacher?

You can contact your teacher via e-mail, by phone, and within the Moodle system using the messaging feature. You can also post a question in the course “forum” for your fellow students to respond to.

How do I send assignments to my teacher?

You send assignment within the Moodle system by uploading them into assignment links. If you need help doing this, please contact your teacher.

When can I work on the course?

Once you have received your login and password, the course will be available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What if I forget my login or password?

If you forget your login or password, click on the forgot password button and follow the instructions. You will receive an e-mail with a reset login and password. If you are still having difficulty, please e-mail dlreg@nvsd44.bc.ca or phone us at 604-903-3333. We can reset the password for you.

How can I be successful in my online course?

Make sure that you have set aside time to work on the course on a consistent basis. Hand assignments in every 2 weeks, participate in course forums, and connect with your teacher regularly. Make an appointment or drop by the DL Centre for tutorials, to work on the course in our computer lab, and to take tests and exams to ensure your success in the course.
