District Review Report

District Reviews are a component of the Province’s accountability framework for British Columbia public schools.

Each school district receives a review every three years.  Every year, twenty British Columbia school districts are scheduled for District Reviews.  A District Review Team is appointed by the Minister of Education, chaired by a school superintendent, and comprised of school and/or district administrators, teachers, parents, and Ministry of Education officials.

The purposes of a District Review are to:

  • Review school district and school achievement data
  • Review the school district’s Accountability Contract and School Plans to improve student achievement, make observations and recommendations to the board and to the Minister of Education about improving student achievement
  • Identify promising (best) practices that will assist other school districts.

The District Review Team is expected to provide a report to the school board and to the Minister of Education using a template set out by the Minister.  It is the task of the Minister to review the report and release it to the school district at a public meeting.

During the period of April 29 through May 2, 2007, a District Review was conducted in North Vancouver School District. Dr. Keven Elder, District Review Team Chair and Superintendent of Schools, Saanich School District (No. 63), and Judy Arnold, Director, Systems Performance Branch of the Ministry of Education, presented the Final Report of the District Review 2006/07 to the North Vancouver Board of Education at its Public meeting on September 25, 2007.
