North Vancouver Board of Education

Guiding Principles 2009 - 2011

Through a series of meetings, the Board has developed and aligned its goals (guidelines) to fit within the framework of the North Vancouver School District’s Vision statements.   The following guidelines, adopted by the Board at its October 13, 2010 public meeting, reflect the consensus of the Board:

  • To provide policies and leadership that support student achievement and enable positive educational change that will inspire individual success for all learners (Instructional Practice, Program Diversity, Sharing and Celebrating Success)
  • To build trust and honour diversity by developing cooperative and respectful relationships amongst students, parents, staff and the community (Community Connections, Integrated Communities)
  • To strengthen communication and engage the broad community in meaningful dialogue (Community Connections, Communications)
  • To increase and support opportunities for students through expanded community partnerships (Program Diversity, Community Connections)
  • To advocate for the true costs of public education, to raise additional revenue for the enhancement and enrichment of public education, to allocate funds fairly and transparently, and to uphold the societal benefits associated with quality public education. (Communications, Instructional Practice, Program Diversity, Facilities)
  • To promote a healthy, safe and caring environment that is welcoming to all (Community Connections, Communications, Facilities)
  • To encourage and support environmental sustainability practices throughout the School District to reinforce North Vancouver School District as the natural place to learn.  (Program Diversity, Integrated Communities, Facilities)
