With four children attending two North Vancouver schools, Susan Skinner has had plenty of opportunity to get involved in school issues at all levels. Serving on her local PAC executive led to election to the DPAC, where she also served for a short time as District Associate to BCCPAC prior to her election in 2005 as a Trustee. Susan’s commitment to advocate for parents and children also developed through her experiences as a stay-at-home parent, her service as a certified Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, and her support for La Leche League. Susan chose to give birth to her four children at home—an experience that led her to be a strong supporter of midwifery as a safe, caring and cost effective choice in maternity care.  Susan’s passion for supporting families and community was channeled recently in her work with the Community Services Department of the District of West Vancouver.

Susan has a professional background in administration and sales, with a specialty in communications.  She has worked in both the private and public sector, including the provincial Ministry of Finance. Susan now works as a communications and marketing consultant. Throughout her career, Susan says she has seen how communications is the most integral requirement for organizational success.

Susan has served on numerous civic and School Board committees, including immediate past Chair of the Finance and Facilities Standing Committee, current Chair of the Education and Programs Standing Committee, the North Vancouver School District Visioning Process, the North Shore Substance Abuse Working Group, and the City of North Vancouver Advisory Planning Commission. Susan’s work in youth advocacy began many years ago as a founding board member of the Vancouver Junior Board of Trade. She studied public relations at BCIT, and sociology and English at Capilano University.
