Here is course outline for students taking Français Langue 12. Please read it carefully.
Course Description
Français Langue 12 ( French Immersion 12 )
Teacher : Mme Yaraghi
This course improves students’ competence in oral and written communication in French, while providing a base of knowledge from activities and everyday situations. The various texts and reading material provided reinforce their critiquing skills and their teamwork skills. The students will be well prepared for their Provincial Exams ( oral in May and written in June ).
To achieve these goals, the students will :
- Be able to read easily and automatically in French various texts and be able to respond to the various types: informative, opinionated, emotive, or persuasive
- Be able to interpret persuasive essays, understand narrative and descriptive excerpts, and determine the important elements and messages written by the authors in order to be able to reproduce similar texts
- Be able to show their comprehension of different types of written or oral excerpts and be able to discuss their opinions
- Be able to familiarize themselves with classic literature and modern French language, and be able to reflect upon the political, economical, social, and cultural aspects of any society studied
- Be able to correct their written work using previously learned grammar and also using dictionaries as well as “bescherelles”
- Be able to use diverse strategies to discover idiomatic expressions in French and to correct mistakes caused by incorrect use of English expressions translated into French
- Be able to master both oral and written parts of the French language, learning both poetry and prose in order to use the best one in any given situation

- Various literacy excerpts and editorials ( magazines, newspapers )
- Poems written by Baudelaire, Verlaine, Du Bellay, Victor Hugo, and other francophone poets
- The theatrical piece “Zone “ by Marcel Dubé
- The novel “ L’étranger “ by Albert Camus
Evaluation :
Test/Quizzes 35%
Oral section 25%
Written compositions 25%
Homework, participation 15%
Final mark :
Three semester 60%
Provincial exam 40% ( 30% oral and 70% written )
Expectations :
- The students must arrive to class on time, with all necessary materials ( textbooks, etc… )
- The students must actively participate in discussions in class in French with their teacher as well as with their peers. They must also avoid speaking English or adding English words by accident in their conversation
- The students are responsible for their own absences ( homework must be done and handed in to the teacher ). Exams must be written immediately after their return to school, and must be immediately arranged with their teacher ( Mme Yaraghi )
- The students will receive a zero if their absence is not excused
- The students are responsible for their own learning. If they need supplementary time or tutoring ( e.g. for grammar ), they must organize it on their own time to talk with the teacher or with a tutor.
