Feb.  13-21  Read Black Cat & Monkey Paw and complete General Questions 1-18(see handout) after each story. Dates will vary with your timetable.

Feb.  22 - 29  Read "The Boscombe Valley Mystery" & "The Second Gong"
complete General Questions 1-18(see handout) after each story.

Feb. 23 - Boscombe Valley + 18 questions-You can find this story online by googling the title.
Feb. 29 - The Second Gong + 18 questions-Let me know if this one is online too.  If not, we will study it in class


March 26/27- Finish Murder by Death and do quiz.

March 28/March 29- The Lady or the Tiger questions due.

                                 -Unreasonable Doubt-read and finish questions in class.

April 2-5 - Film Study-Jaws

April 12-13 - Tales of Mystery and Suspense Unit test. Short answer format. Study the six short stories(Black Cat, Monkey's Paw, Boscombe Valley, Second Gong, Unreasonable Doubt, Lady or the Tiger.) and study your 18 questions for each story and your short fiction terms(see the list below).
Know which author wrote which story.  Good Luck!!!

Literary Analysis
Usethe following literary elements for each short story to prepare foryour unit examination. Also, refer to the lecture notes as definitionsof the terms may be on the test. In addition, you will have to knowtitles and authors, and some publication dates given in class. Previewthe 5 strategies for each story too.
1. Type - Escape/Interpretive
2. Protagonist/antagonist/central conflict/artistic unity/plot manipulation
3. Character - Presentation(direct/indirect)
Convincing(consitent, motivated, plausible)
Type(round/flat/stock)
Development(dynamic/static)
4. Point of View (1st person/objective/omniscient/limited omniscient
5. Theme and is it explicit(obvious) or implicit(hidden)
6. Symbols (object/character/color)
7. Ironies(verbal/dramatic/situational
