English 12-Literary Synthesis Essay
Structure:

-5 paragraph essay
-300-400 wds.
-Voice-academic = no “I’s”, we’s, or you’s. (the reader, one, the audience.)

-Parts of the lit. essay:
*Introduction:State thesis using both title of works to be cited.
*Body – Compare each literary work in each of the three body paragraphs.
*Conclusion. – Restate the thesis using both works and end with a compliment, criticism, prediction, quote, or insight.

-Breakdown the parts of the essay.
*Introduction:
-Background(Bk)-Author, title, plus the general premise(idea or focus) of the essay. followed by the

thesis-answers the topic.

*Body: (Introductory words)
-Body #1-first argument
(transitional word)
-Body #2 – second argument (transition)
-Body #3 – third argument
(each body paragraph contains a P.i.E. Point, illustration, explanation)

*Conclusion: (Conclusion tag-Therefore, Finally, In the end, In conclusion,)
-Return to the background
-Summarize the thesis
-Powerful Ending(8-12 wds.)
