The 4 tribes agreements:

  • Attentive listening
  • Right to pass
  • No put--downs
  • Mutual respect

CLASSROOM POLICIES

  • You must bring the following materials to class EACH DAY:

    1. Pencil/pen
    2. 3-ring binder with lined, blank paper & journal
    3. Social Studies 10 Textbook Horizons
  • DO NOT come unprepared to class or you will receive a strike. Three strikes will result in after school learning support on Wednesday or Friday.

    CLASS RULES

    1. Arrive to class on time and prepared. Failure to do so will result in a strike.

    2. Respect yourself, respect others, LISTEN and contribute. Follow the 4 Tribes agreements above.

    3. RAISE YOUR HAND!

    4. Only one student is allowed out of the classroom at a time. No one enters or leaves

the classroom when a student is presenting.

    5. Absolutely NO CELL PHONES or LISTENING DEVICES.

If one or more of these class rules are broken you will be held accountable. The three-strike rule applies and those who choose to act out will be responsible for making up the time at lunch or after school.

    GRADES

Your grade will be structured as follows:

    ü Homework and small assignments—40%

    ü Large assignments—20%

    ü Tests—20%

    ü Final Exam—20%

Homework will be assigned on a regular basis in manageable amounts. It will be checked regularly, and reviewed the day after it is assigned. It is essential that students complete all of their assigned homework to maximize their opportunities for success in the course. Homework will be posted daily on my website at www.handsworth.ca

Quizzes, tests, and or study guides may be assigned to ensure that you are keeping up with the course work. You will be given at least one-week notice before an exam. Quizzes may or may not be announced.

To make sure you are staying on track with your organization, each week your binder is going to be inspected to make sure it is in order. Binder checks will occur on Thursdays and Fridays at the beginning. Each check is worth 5 marks and will be factored into your overall grade.

    LATE ASSIGNMENTS

All assignments (homework, papers, projects, etc.) are expected to be turned in by the due date.

Homework will not be accepted late.

·Writing Assignments can be turned in up to three days later for half credit— Papers will not be accepted after those three days and you will receive a “0” for that assignment.

·If you are absent on the day that a paper is due, you must email me your final copy by 2:55 pm – gmackenzie@nvsd44.bc.ca

    MAKE-UP WORK

If you are away from class, it is your responsibility to get the work you missed. Get notes from a classmate and check the web for handouts/assignments that you missed. You have 1 day for each day absent to make-up work until the assignment is considered “late”. Quizzes and exams must be made up within two days of returning to school.
