ESL Levels 1-5 Explained
In the North Vancouver School District we use 5 levels for our ESL students:

Level one 
 
Beginner


  Intermediate (grades 4, 5, 6, and 7) students and will not receive a letter grade for Socials studies, science or  Language   Arts.

These students will come the ESL room as part of a small group for English instruction and help with classroom work and Canadian culture.

They will come to ESL class everyday.

Level two

High Beginner


Intermediate (grades 4, 5, 6, and 7) students and will not receive a letter grade for Socials studies, science or Language Arts.

These students will come the ESL room as part of a small group for English instruction and help with classroom work and  Canadian culture.

They will come to ESL class almost everyday.

Level three

Intermediate



Intermediate (grades 4, 5, 6, and 7) students and may or may not receive a letter grade for Socials studies, Science  or Language Arts. This depends on the student's reading and writing ability.    
                       
These students will come the ESL room as part of a small group for English instruction and help with classroom work and    Canadian culture.

They will come to ESL class 2-4 times a week.

Level four

High Intermediate
Intermediate (grades 4, 5, 6, and 7) students and will receive a letter grade for every subject.

These students will come the ESL room as part of a small group for English instruction approximately only 2 times a
term.

Level Five

Advanced

Intermediate (grades 4, 5, 6, and 7) students and will receive a letter grade for every subject.

These students will come the ESL room as part of a small group for English instruction approximately only 2 times a term.

 Also,  these students are taken off the ESL list at some point in their year.
