Welcome to the Argyle Curling page!
Argyle has a healthy curling community. We curl at the North Shore Winter Club every Wednesday at 4 pm, to about 5:30, from October to mid-February.
Anyone in any grade can join. No experience is necessary!
You can join with a team or on your own.
To get forms, see Ms Walter in room 529.
Cost: $185 plus GST, payable to North Shore Winter Club, plus $20 payable to Argyle Secondary. Or if you wish, you can sign up for only half a year for $85. (still pay the $20 though)
Equipment: warm clothes and clean, flat-soled shoes. There are sliders and brooms at the Club, but returning curlers might wish to buy their own brooms. You can do this at On the Rocks, a curling supplies store on Hastings St. in Burnaby.
Coach: Paul Dunkin - Mr. Dunkin has more than 35 years of curling experience. He is a level 2 coach and has been coaching Argyle curling for fifteen years. Sponsor: Ms Walter room 529 Helper: Mrs Dunkin room 203
We play games for about 16 weeks (with a break at Christmas) and there is a trophy for the team with the most points at the end of the season. There is a trophy for the most sportsmanlike player, and there is also a scholarship available for a graduating curler.
One team each of boys and girls may choose to participate in the zone playdowns, usually held in late January. There is a round robin and the winners go to provincials. This year, the provincial curling championships will be held in Dawson Creek on March 8-10, 2012. During the year, teams may be boys, girls or mixed and can also be of different schools. However, for playdowns, students must be of the same gender and school.
Are you a returning curler and want more practice? We recommend practice times (Saturdays or Sundays, 1-3 pm, check at the club) or joining an evening adult league. See Mrs. Dunkin or Ms Walter for more details.
Regional playdowns These "playoffs" take place in late January, and the winners go to Provincials. Times and places will appear later at this site.
Good luck and good curling!
