REMINDERS:

This page will be updated every Monday after school (or Tuesday, if Monday is a holiday). 

Scholastic book orders have arrived and handed out.

Our Mystery Spot winners have been drawn for this month.  Congratulations to Ben M., Suzzanne and Hazel.

Next draw is June 13 but have your "Thinkmarks" in by the 12th.

Our first drama workshop will be Tuesday, May 22, then May 28 and 31.

Please return your Splashdown permission forms by Friday, June 1.  Permission forms went out today.

Please also note the letter home outlining our last Unit of Inquiry.

HOMEWORK:

Language Arts 

Reading:  We are starting the 2nd novel of choice for our Lit. Circles.  Please support your child to read their agreed upon section and complete the Preparation sheet.  Our last meetings are this week and the Personal Response is due June 1.

Writing:     We have started our poetry unit which leads to our next Unit of Inquiry.  The central idea is:  People express their ideas and feelings through various types of poetry.

We have been reviewing cursive writing and students are encouraged to practise at home and use in their every day writing.

Spelling:  no spelling this week.

Math:   We are working on Unit 8 on Fractions and Decimals.  We are finishing this unit and will be having a quiz soon.

French:  Ms. Todd teaches on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Other aspects of French will be incorporated throughout the day.  On Friday, we are learning and memorizing some French verbs.  Please review these on a regular basis.  

P.E.:  P.E. is on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please be sure your child has comfortable clothing and good running shoes.  P.E. strip is not needed.  We are presently working on hip hop dancing.  

Social Studies:  We are beginning our study on the Canadian government.  Quizzes will be returned tomorrow (Wed.)  We have researched both sides of the issue:  "Should we abolish the senate?"  Students will be writing a short essay in class explaining reasons for each side and then stating and explaining their own opinion.

Science:  

Career and Health:      We had two U.B.C. nutrition students visit us today with information and activities related to Canada's Food Guide.  We will be continuing on this theme in Career and Health until the end of the school year.

Technology will be integrated into all subject areas.  Our computer period is Mondays and Wednesdays and as needed.

Fine Arts:  Ms. Dunkley is our Music teacher and students have music on Fridays.  Visual arts and drama are also components of the Fine Arts curriculum.  

Our IB units for this year are:
