Westview Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 school with a population of roughly 230 students. Residing in a newly constructed facility, we are proud to be a new, safe, sustainable and welcoming school, but maintain our longstanding reputation as a warm inviting place to be and learn. Originally built in 1943, Westview was built to accommodate a growing community. Sixty five plus years later, we are still going strong.
Our play area is presided over by a magnificent Welcoming Figure carved by Darren Yelton and reminds us that we are located on Squamish territory and share in the rich heritage that the Squamish people bring to us.
We provide, for our students, a diverse range of programs which include early learning initiatives such as Strong Start, a strong fine arts component, a daily hot lunch program, in-school mentors through Big Brothers, and Reading Tails, a Saint John’s Ambulance therapy dog program.
We support community learning through a close affiliation with North Shore Neighbourhood House, who run onsite Preschool and Before and After School programs and provide a community co-coordinator to plan and facilitate parent events and afterschool programs for students.
In the construction of the building, provisions have been made for community space and many groups take advantage of both the gymnasium and the multipurpose room in the evenings throughout the school year. We encourage community partnerships.
