Career Exploration
It’s all about connecting and creating opportunities!
As part of Grad Transitions all students are required to complete 30 hours of work experience/volunteering as well as career exploration which is intended to better prepare students for life after high school.
Ms Giraud, the Work Experience Facilitator, supports the Grade 10 to 12 students' career exploration through work experience, apprenticeship, job shadowing, mentorship opportunities etc.
Sutherland also hosts Career spotlights every Tuesday at lunch in the theatre until Christmas Break.
Presenters from different careers and industries come and share their experiences with students.

Secondary School Apprenticeship (SSA)
An apprenticeship is a training program for trades and technical careers that involves a combination of on the job training and classroom instruction. SSA is a career program that allows students to begin an apprecticeship while still in school and earn high school credits for doing so.
Hidden Apprentices: If you are in high school and working in a trade, you may already be a Secondary School Apprentice and not know it! By registering as an SSA you could earn credits while working, be eligible for a $1000 scholarship and get a head start on earning your trade certification.
