PASSPORT TO EDUCATION
Passport to Education stamps are awarded each year to students in Grades 10, 11 and 12. There are 9,000 stamps awarded in BC. The number awarded to Seycove is based on the enrolment on Sept. 30 of each year. Grade 10 & 11 students who qualify receive $250 and Grade 12 students receive $500. Award vouchers must be redeemed within 5 years of the year in which the student is expected to graduate. Books and stamps are retained at the school.
This particular award has specific criteria:
• The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or Landed Immigrant;
• The award is based primarily on achievement in school final marks.
C.L.A.S.S. RECOGNITION
Once each term, the teachers submit names of students who have demonstrated excellence in one or more of the areas of Consideration, Leadership, Achievement, Sportsmanship and Scholarship. In recognition, the names of these students will be posted in the entrance of the school. This is a recognition program that is not connected to the Awards Ceremony in June.
CURRICULAR SUBJECT AWARDS
Subject award certificates and plaques are presented to those students who have consistently demonstrated exceptional work habits, a willingness to participate and scholastic excellence. The student takes pride in doing the best possible job, enjoys creative problem solving and is enthusiastic and willing to assist within the classroom. Certificates are presented to the top students in each subject at each grade level. Subject plaques are awarded in each subject area to the Junior (Grades 8-10) and Senior (Grades 11-12) student whose accumulative overall record is consistently exceptional.
HONOUR ROLL
A school honour roll is intended to recognize students for academic excellence. In this instance, the word academic is used to describe the courses a student may take when enrolled at the school. Courses must be school-based courses; DL courses do not count toward Honour Roll, nor do they count as one of the courses.
General Criteria
· Student must be enrolled in a minimum of eight courses in Grades 8 – 10 and a minimum of seven courses in Grades 11 and 12
· Average will be calculated as follows: Grades 8-10 = top 8; Grade 11 = top 7; Grade 12 = top 6
· Student may not have an I or F to be eligible for honour roll
· Student may not have any N’s for work habits to be eligible for honour roll.

Student must have an 80% average in both Term 1 & Term 2
Honour Roll
Student must have an 86% average in both Term 1 & Term 2
Honour Roll with Distinction
Student must have a 90% average in both Term 1 & Term 2
Outstanding Scholar
Outstanding Scholar Awards are presented to the student from each grade level who achieves the highest percentage average based on achievement in the first two terms. The level of academic challenge of a student’s program of study may be considered.
ACADEMIC AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE
Academic Awards of Excellence are presented to Grade 12 students who have been Honour Roll with Distinction students for all five years at Seycove.
EXEMPLARY STUDENT AWARDS
Exemplary Student Awards (Top All-Round Students) are presented to the student from each grade level who, more than any other student demonstrates the positive attributes of C.L.A.S.S.: Consideration, Leadership, Achievement, Sportsmanship and Scholarship in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities. These students have achieved Honour Roll standing, have provided service and leadership to the school as well as participated/contributed to athletics and/or the Visual or Performing Arts.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR AWARDS
Extra-curricular awards are presented to outstanding students who have excelled in extra-curricular opportunities provided outside the classroom. The areas include citizenship, fine and practical arts, and athletics. The recipients of these awards provide strong leadership, demonstrate initiative and cooperation and show respect towards others.
CITIZENSHIP AWARDS
Citizenship Awards are presented to students who have volunteered service to others at Seycove, Seycove Family of Schools, and the Parkgate Community Centre. This includes a variety of service over and above course requirements and for which no other credit or remuneration is given. The students also demonstrate responsible behaviour and effort in their approach to all aspects of school.
Service Achievement Certificate
Students receive awards at each grade level based on completing the following service hours. Service must be completed in more than one area:
• Grades 8, 9, and 10: 25 hours
• Grades 11 and 12: 40 hours
100-Hour Pin
Seycove pins are presented to students who have volunteered 100 hours or more in a single school year.
Outstanding Citizen
Outstanding Citizen Awards are presented to the student from each grade level who, more than any other student, demonstrates outstanding citizenship and volunteer participation, leadership, responsible behaviour and effort, in particular, within Seycove School. The student has significant involvement in more than one area of service, demonstrates positive behaviour toward his/her academic work and shows respect towards others.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR FINE AND PRACTICAL ARTS AWARDS
Art Awards
An outstanding Junior (Grades 8-10) and Senior (Grades 11-12) award is presented to the student who has maintained an “A” curricular standing, demonstrates independent art development as well as offering art service to the school.
Music Awards
An outstanding Junior (Grades 8-10) and Senior (Grades 11-12) award is presented to a student who is a talented musician and who is also willing to provide extra-curricular service and leadership to the music department.
Practical Arts Awards
An outstanding Junior (Grades 8-10) and Senior (Grades 11-12) award is presented to a student who demonstrates talent and skill in the area of practical arts (Industrial Education or Home Economics) and who is willing to use this skill to provide extra-curricular service and leadership to the school.
Theatre Arts Awards
These awards are presented to outstanding students in the various technical and skilled areas of the theatre, including: Technician, Director, Actor and Actress. The recipients demonstrate a love of the theatre, leadership and a commitment to the theatre department.
ATHLETIC AWARDS
Certificates and Medals
Certificates and medals are presented to recognize athletes at Seycove who have served on numerous teams and demonstrated skill in their respective sports. Awards are given to athletes who have accumulated the point totals listed below throughout their Seycove athletic career.

Outstanding Athlete Awards
The male and female Athletes of the Year for each grade will be determined by the Athletic Department, based on the point structure listed on the following pages. Coaches submit individual athletic points for each sport and students will be considered based on their two best sports.
Athletic Service Awards
Service to the Athletic Department for officiating, score-keeping, time-keeping, managing, setting up and assisting with sports events is recognized through the Citizenship Awards. Students should see the Athletic Director if they are interested in volunteering.
Athletic Points
The following criteria will be used to determine the number of athletic points to give to students who participate in both team and individual sports sponsored by the Seycove Athletic Department.
• Skill Assessment
Coaches will rank each of their athletes based on the skills demonstrated in league play compared to athletes of the same level in the North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSSAA). Athletes playing above their age level will be compared to their competitors. Intermediate league athletes will be compared to senior level athletes.

• Attendance
The Seycove Athletic Department expects that all athletes will be committed to their team by attending all schedules practices and competitions. Attendance will be taken by the coach throughout the season. Points will be awarded as follows:
