Our Peer Mediators have now completed their training period and will now complete their practicum by the end of next week. In December they will begin their weekly schedule. Each group of five to seven is on duty one day a week, either at recess or at lunch, from 12:15 until 12:40 and patrol the school grounds in groups of two or three.

During the training sessions, the mediators learn the basics of mediation and problem solving. They will assist YOUNGER students by keeping their eyes open, intervening if they see issues develop, and working through problem solving strategies if they feel it is necessary

If a problem arises that they feel they are not suited to deal with, or if a situation proved to be too aggressive or physical, they will seek the support of an adult.

Our Peer Mediators are easily identified by their RED jackets that have PEER MEDIATOR emblazoned on the back. The mediators have a debriefing session every day at the end of their shift, so they are kept on track, and we are kept up to date on what they have been dealing with.
