Dear Queen Mary Parents and Community Members,

The Queen Mary Heritage Renovation project is right on schedule, starting the summer of 2011.  We have now closed the Queen Mary School building and staff and staff and student have been relocated to the Cloverley Elementary School site, at 440 Hendry Avenue. 

The closure sees ALL CURRENT STAFF and STUDENTS relocating to the Cloverley School site located on Hendry Avenue for a TWO YEAR period. To support this move, a planning committee has been struck to undertake the task of detailing the movement of students from the Queen Mary location to our new temporary home at Cloverley.

Basically, the r enovation will see the entire interior of the building demolished and rebuilt to current building codes, seismic codes, and modern school building standards.  The exterior will maintain its heritage character and all key design elements, with all worn, aging, damaged, or unsafe features and structures rebuilt or reconditioned.  The grounds will also be brought up to modern design standards, with a refurbishing and updating of the play areas, hard surface areas, playgrounds, fields, common areas, and landscaping.  In addition, the architects and engineers are committed to making the new Queen Mary a very ecologically and environmentally friendly school and grounds. 

Currently, the project steering committee, comprised of teacher, administrator, support staff, and parent representation meets with the school district’s capital projects staff.  Information and planning meetings with parents and community members were held in June and November 2010.

Throughout the renovation project, we hope that ALL our current students and families will support and assist us as we work together during this exciting and important reconstruction period.
