MISSION STATEMENT - Norgate Community School

"The purpose of Norgate Community School is to empower our members to achieve their personal best in a safe and positive environment that promotes their academic, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual well being as life long learners.”

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

1.         Child Centered - the well being and development of children is the focus of all policies, programs and services.  It is understood that children are usually best served in the context of their families.

2.         Preventive - Strategies are planned and implemented that will offer support before problems require costly intervention.

3.         Co-operation - Educators, community members, families, a range of human service providers, and governments work together to identify needs and solutions.  There is sharing of leadership, planning, decision making, resources, evaluation, and responsibility.

4.         Empowering - Collaborative processes strengthen the capacity of communities, children and their families to operate independently and self-sufficiently, to determine their own needs and plan how they will meet these needs.

5.         Equity - Children and other members of the community have access to educational opportunities and the necessary supporting human services to achieve equitable benefits.  It is recognized that some students, because of social, economic, physical, or cultural barriers, require additional, specialized supports to achieve equity.

6.         Holistic, Comprehensive - Issues are most effectively addressed when defined and dealt with in the whole rather than as parts.  The social, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of all members of the community needs to be addressed holistically.  As well, the interconnected, interdependent nature of all systems, structures, and programs is recognized.

7.         Culturally Sensitive - There is respect for the cultural background of all members of the community.  Programs and services are culturally sensitive and relevant.

8.                  Affordability - The most efficient and effective use is made of provincial and community resources.
