MORNING ARRIVAL TIME
Students are encouraged to arrive at school close to the entry bell time at 8:40 a.m. (Exceptions include such activities as band or strings and athletic practices.) With permission of the classroom teacher, and an early morning pass card, students are invited to study and receive additional time with their teachers between 8:00 a.m. and 8:40 a.m.
Please be aware that classes begin promptly at 8:45. Parents are asked to please assist us in reinforcing the virtue of punctuality with their children. To this end, it is helpful when parents do not escort their children into the classroom or linger in the hallways after the bell has rung. If you are still in the building when our morning messages and music program begin, we would appreciate you stopping to listen. Your cooperation is appreciated.
PLAY AREAS
Kindergarten - Grade 2 - "Lower Playground" or west side of school
Grade 3 - 7 - "Upper Playground" or east side of school
RECESS ROUTINES
All students are encouraged to use the washrooms and then to go outside. On rainy days, Primary students will use the undercover play area while Intermediate students may be given permission to stay inside for quiet activities. Teacher Aides provide supervision at recess.
LUNCH TIME ROUTINES
Students are encouraged to go home for lunch on a regular basis, if this arrangement is feasible for parents. Our lunch hour is structured so that children eat their lunches in their classrooms and then go outside to play. At 12:15 (Intermediate) and 12:20 (Primary) students go outside to their respective play areas, re-enter the school at the 12:55 p.m. bell, and are settled in classrooms in time for 1:00 p.m. classes to begin. All students who stay at school for lunch eat their lunches in their own classrooms. Teacher Aides provide supervision at lunch time.
SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS
During lunch and recess times, students are supervised by teacher aides. Students must stay on the school grounds from the time of arrival until 3:00 p.m. dismissal. The only exception is for students who have their parents' permission to go home for lunch. There are no other exceptions without prior written consent from a parent.
AFTER SCHOOL ROUTINES
Parents should be aware that there is no supervision of students after 3:00 p.m. dismissal, except for those participating in organized extra-curricular activities or those asked to remain after school by a teacher. Students are expected to make their way home at 3:00 p.m. or immediately after a supervised extra-curricular activity. For their own safety, students are not to remain on the school playgrounds unless they are supervised by a parent.
CONDUCT TO AND FROM SCHOOL
The School Act requires the school to take responsibility for the students' conduct to and from school. Therefore, we ask for parent cooperation in encouraging the safe, responsible travel and behaviour of your children to and from school.
