The above telephone line is dedicated to the call back program only, for the sole purpose of recording student absences in advance. Please call the school’s main line (604-903-3650) for all other business.
It is very important to inform the school of your child’s absence, by calling the call back number, every time your child is absent due to illness, a doctor’s appointment, a gifted program, or holiday plans.
Note that we need parents to call to inform us that their child will not be at Montroyal to attend a gifted program, although, in this case, the student will not be marked absent from school. Leaving a message on the call back dedicated line (above) is the only way that staff and parents can be alerted in the event of a missing child.
Classroom attendance is taken at 8:45 am and again at 1:00 pm. When a child is absent without prior parent notification, we must assume that the child may be missing. The “call back” parent volunteer and office staff begin the task of making emergency calls to parents to check the missing student’s whereabouts.
The recorded greeting on the call back line will ask you for the following information.
· your child’s name
· the teacher’s name
· reason for absence
· date(s) of absence
· expected date of return to school
Note: If your child will be absent for a partial day (e.g. 8:45 to 11:00 am for a doctor’s appointment), in addition to leaving the above details on the call back line, please remind your child to sign-in at the office immediately upon return to the school. Conversely, if your child needs to leave mid-day, the student needs to sign-out at the office before leaving.
