Visit from the Mayor

Eastview welcomed City of North Vancouver Mayor Darrell Mussatto on November 23 to officially acknowledge the Stewardship project in Eastview Park.  He thanked the students for their work to date in terms of pulling invasive species such as English ivy and Holly, as well as for their efforts in planting over 300 native plants in the forest area.  The project has brought students together in an endeavour to create a space that can used for an outdoor classroom, but most importantly reclaims the natural state of some of the forest floor. Other guests included Trustee Linda Buchanan, Maurice Nahanee, Lisa Parker and Angela Negenman

In this Phase 1 of our project, we have been supported by the following people...

Kathrin Wallace - coordinating the project, ordering plants, and organizing parent volunteers

Lisa Parker and Angela Negenman from City Parks - invasive species pull, education, planting

PAC - purchase of our native plants

David Cooper - donation of gloves for student use

We will continue to monitor the care of this area and will work on Phase II in the Spring.  Each class will be building some birdhouses that will be added to the area as well.  We hope to continue to interact positively within this space and learn as we go.
