April 2012
Going into this school year I knew that it would be another year of continued and constant change. Yet issues related to the new school construction, coupled with the teacher job action, have seen us deal with far more adjustments to “the plan” that we set for ourselves late last spring than I think that even I had anticipated. Through it all both our student and our parent communities have been highly adaptive and have continued to support the school and community changes that we began several years ago. No doubt we will likely need to deal with several more twists and changes to “the plan” between now and the end of June (and likely again in the fall)… but for perhaps the first time in almost three years I can truly say – with a high degree of confidence – that there is now light at the end of the tunnel.
The work on the new school is progressing fabulously! Interior painting and the installation of flooring and millwork has begun to transform what was a steel structure just a few short months ago into the teaching and learning space that we had envisioned when we began this project in July of 2008. Nothing less than our Principal’s Message community deserves… we are all in for a most incredible experience when the doors to the new school open on September 4, 2012. Not only will it be a return of our staff and students onto a single site for the first time in three years, but we will begin the implementing of several new programs that have been specifically designed and planned for with the new school in mind: Engineering; Fashion/Textile Arts; and the VCC Culinary Arts Programming.
Next year will be a year of new beginnings on a number of different levels. Along with the new school and the new programs it will also mark the introduction of our new school logo. Though something that we plan to use more widely this spring as we begin to replace our stationary supplies, the new logo will be used exclusively starting this September. It was designed by local artist and Carson Graham alumni, Mr. Todd Baker and is a more stylized version of the Eagle. We do hope that you like it as much as we do.
Kind regards,
SJGarland – Principal, Carson Graham Secondary
