AWARDS AND RECOGNITION CRITERIA

DISTRICT HONOUR ROLL CRITERIA
Honour Roll recognition will be awarded to students following each reporting period. Students will receive honour roll recognition certificates at the year end ceremony ONLY if they have made BOTH honour roll periods.

Students are recognized as Honour Roll students in each reporting period based on their grade percent average for that term and the following criteria:

Students who have achieved an average of 90% and above will receive Honour Roll with Distinction.
Students who have achieved an average of 86% to 90% will receive Honour Roll.
Students who have achieved an average of 80% to 85% will receive Honourable Mention.

  • Honour Roll is calculated on school based courses only.
  • Distance Learning courses do not count towards Honour Roll.
  • Students in grade 8, 9, and 10 must be taking a minimum course load of 8 courses.
  • Students in grade 11 must be taking a minimum course load of 7 courses.
  • Students in grade 12 must be taking a minimum course load of 6 courses plus Grad Transitions or the equivalent of a full program load such as students who are enrolled in District Academies or Peak Performance Program.
  • All 8, 7, or 6 of the required courses are counted for calculation.
  • Students will not be eligible for the Honour Roll if they receive an I " Incomplete", F "Failing grade", or a "Needs Improvement" for work habits.
  • Honour Roll with Distinction and Honour Roll awards are presented at the awards ceremony at the end of the year, calculations will be based on the first two terms.
  • Honourable Mention is not recognized at the year end ceremony.


MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME CERTIFICATE (10)

The certificates are awarded to grade 10 Middle Years Programme Students who have successfully completed their Personal Project, their community and service hours and passed all the required courses in grades 8-10.

OUTSTANDING SCHOLARS AWARD (8-12)
These Scholars of the Year are recognized for their outstanding achievement and commitment to learning. These are awarded to the top student(s) from each grade who have achieved the highest overall percentage, considering a full load of courses, taken during the year, in addition to their leadership qualities and positive contributions to the classroom learning environment.

EAGLE AWARD OF EXCELLENCE (10 and 12)
Awarded to grade 10 and grade 12 students who have achieved Honour Roll status on all their report cards over their three years(10) or their five (12) years in high school.



SUBJECT CERTIFICATE AWARDs (8-12)
Awarded to students who have had outstanding achievement in the subject and have demonstrated a strong commitment to the subject area.  

SUBJECT CURRICULAR PLAQUES (Junior and Senior)
Junior: Awarded to the TOP grade 10 student(s) from each IB curricular area based upon performance from grades 8-10. These students have outstanding achievement, have shown a very strong commitment to the subject and have shown growth in the curricular area over a period of three years.
Senior: Awarded to the TOP grade 12 student(s) from each curricular area based upon performance from grade 8-12. These students have outstanding achievement, have shown a very strong commitment to the subject and have shown growth in the curricular area over a period of five years.




SERVICE AWARDS CERTIFICATES (8-12)
Service awards are given for 20 hours or more of service

100 HOUR SERVICE PINS (8-12)
Awarded to students who have volunteered 100 hours or more of service in one school year.

200 HOUR SERVICE PLAQUES (8-12)
Awarded to students who have volunteered 200 hours or more of service in one school year.

SPIRIT OF THE EAGLE - Top Citizenship (8-12)
Awarded at each grade level to students who demonstrate outstanding effort and continued commitment to improving the school and community through volunteer work and active service. These students uphold the values of honesty, integrity, courteousness and respect: they give freely of their time and resources and exhibit genuine interest in service learning or volunteerism. Awards are based upon number of hours and a variety of activities




IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM HONOUR AWARD (GRADE 10)
Awarded to a grade 10 student who most embodies the attributes of the IB learner Profile. It is awarded to a student who is well rounded, academically exceptional, has participated a variety of Community and Service activities. This student has also embraced the ethos of the Personal Project.

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM HONOUR AWARD (GRADE 12)
Awarded to an IB Diploma student from grade 12 who most embodies the attributes of the IB learner Profile. It is awarded to a student who is well rounded and academically exceptional.




OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (8-12)

Awarded to a student at each grade level who takes a full course load and who is engaged and involved in the school and the broader community. In addition the recipient must be achieving their academic potential.

OUTSTANDING FIRST NATIONS STUDENT (12)
Awarded to a grade 12 First Nations Student who is taking a full course load and who embodies First Nations pride in the school and in the broader community. In addition, this student demonstrates significant leadership and is achieving their academic potential.




PRINCIPAL'S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE (Junior and Senior)
Each year the Principal selects an outstanding Junior student and Senior student at the Grade 10 and the Grade 12 levels who exemplifies the true spirit of being a Carson Graham Eagle. These students have achieved their academic potential and have participated actively and positively both in curricular and co-curricular areas.

VICE PRINCIPALS' AWARD (12)
Each year the Vice Principals select a member of the graduating class who has made the greatest turn around in their academic profile and in their approach to school since grade eight.




FINE ARTS AWARDS

JUNIOR FINE ARTS AWARD (10)
Awarded to a Grade 10 student who has excelled in two fine arts areas for at least one year and who has been involved in at least one performing group within the school. Student should display above average skill and social responsibility.

SENIOR FINE ARTS AWARD (11/12)
Awarded to a Grade 10 student who has excelled in two fine arts areas for at least one year and who has been involved in at least one performing group within the school. Student should display above average skill and social responsibility.

TRIPLE THREAT AWARDS (10-12)
Awarded to a Grade 10 student who has excelled in two fine arts areas for at least one year and who has been involved in at least one performing group within the school. Student should display above average skill and social responsibility.




ATHLETIC AWARDS


CERTIFICATE
Awarded to any athlete no more than once when the athlete has reached a minimum of 25 points awarded by their coaches (at a maximum of 10 point per major sport and 5 point per minor sport) collectively throughout grades 8 - 10 at Carson.

JUNIOR BLOCK
Awarded to any athlete no more than once when the athlete has reached a minimum of 50 points awarded by their coaches (at a maximum of 10 point per major sport and 5 point per minor sport) collectively throughout grades 8 - 10 at Carson.

JUNIOR PLAQUE
Awarded to any athlete no more than once when the athlete has reached a minimum of 75 points awarded by their coaches (at a maximum of 10 point per major sport and 5 point per minor sport) collectively throughout grades 8 - 10 at Carson.

SENIOR BLOCK
Awarded to any athlete no more than once when the athlete has reached a minimum of 25 points awarded by their coaches (at a maximum of 10 point per major sport and 5 point per minor sport) collectively throughout grades 11 & 12 at Carson.

SENIOR PLAQUE
Awarded to any athlete no more than once when the athlete has reached a minimum of 50 points awarded by their coaches (at a maximum of 10 point per major sport and 5 point per minor sport) collectively throughout grades 11 & 12 at Carson.


SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD

This award goes to a student whose conduct embodies supportive and encouraging attitude.

OUTSTANDING ATHLETES AWARDS (8-Senior)
Athletes of the Year ( MALE AND FEMALE) awards are determined by the Athletic Council. Athletes receive points for each school sport they take part in and the athletes in each grade with the highest point totals for the year are considered for the award. Athletes of the Year candidates must have participated on three or more teams or were standouts on two teams; demonstrated both a high level of skill and significant leadership and are respected by their peers and by the faculty.

SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARDS (Junior and Senior)
Scholar Athlete of the Year awards (MALE AND FEMALE) are determined by the Athletic Council. Athletes receive points for each school sport they take part in and the athletes in each grade with the highest point totals for the year are considered for the award. Scholar Athletes of the Year candidates are chosen based on the following criteria: students demonstrate a balance between their academic and athletic endeavors by participating on two or more teams while maintaining a high academic average; demonstrate both a high level of skill in athletics and significant leadership in the school community and are respected by their peers and by the faculty.



MUSIC AWARDS CRITERIA


OUTSTANDING JUNIOR CHORAL STUDENT AWARD
May be awarded to both a male and female choir student in grades 9 or 10 who have demonstrated above average musicianship skills as singers and who have demonstrated a “team first” attitude in the music department.

OUTSTANDING SENIOR CHORAL STUDENT AWARD
May be awarded to a male and female choir student in grades 11 or 12 who have demonstrated excellent musicianship skills as singers and who have assisted other music students to achieve their potential as musicians and as performers.

OUTSTANDING JUNIOR CONCERT BAND AWARD
May be awarded to a maximum of two students in grades 9 or 10 who have demonstrated above average musicianship skills as an instrumentalist in Concert Band and who have demonstrated a “team first” attitude in the music department.

OUTSTANDING SENIOR CONCERT BAND AWARD
May be awarded to a maximum of two students in grades 11 or 12 who have demonstrated above average musicianship skills as instrumentalists in Concert Band and who have assisted others to achieve their potential as musicians and performers.

OUTSTANDING JUNIOR JAZZ BAND AWARD
Awarded to a grade 9 or 10 student who is enrolled in both Concert Band as well as Jazz Band. This student has demonstrated an aptitude and willingness learn to play a variety of styles of jazz.

OUTSTANDING SENIOR JAZZ BAND AWARD
Awarded to a grade 9 or 10 student who is enrolled in both Concert Band as well as Jazz Band. This student has demonstrated an aptitude and a willingness to learn to play a variety of styles of jazz, a willingness to develop his/her improvisational skills, and who provides encouragement to others in the development of their improvisational skills.

VOCAL JAZZ
This award is given to the student who has demonstrated an aptitude and a willingness to learn to sing in a variety of jazz styles as well as a willingness to develop his/her improvisational skills.The recipient of this award is a student who consistently puts the team first.

OUTSTANDING JUNIOR MUSICIAN
This award is given to a student who is in grade 9 or 10 and, in exceptional circumstances when there is more than one eligible candidate, may be awarded to a maximum of three students. The recipient(s) has been involved in the music department for a minimum of two years, has demonstrated above average musicianship skills, has demonstrated excellent leadership potential, and has contributed significantly to the music department as a team player. Special consideration is given to the student(s) who are in both band and choir.

OUTSTANDING SENIOR MUSICIAN
This award is given to a grade 11 or 12 student and, in exceptional circumstances when there is more than one eligible candidate, may be awarded to a maximum of three students. The recipient(s) has been involved in the music department for a minimum of two years, has demonstrated excellent musicianship skills, has demonstrated excellent leadership skills, and has exemplified the definition of a team player in the music department. Special consideration is given to the student(s) who are in both band and choir.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT AWARD FOR MUSICIANSHIP AND CITIZENSHIP
This award is given to a grade 12 student who has contributed significantly to the music department in his/her years in music at Carson Graham. Excellent musicianship skills are a requirement but, just as important, leadership in all facets of the music department, a willingness to assist others and, when applicable, contributing to successful music tours are all considered. Special consideration is given to the student(s) who are in both band and choir.
