On Friday, October 15th a group of 44 lucky and excited students from both Balmoral and Carson met at the Seabus, on their way to attend WE DAY. The studens were from Balmoral's Student Council, the Carson Global Initiatives Club, and the Carson IB CAS program. WE DAY is a youth leadership conference put on by the Craig and Mark Kielberger organization "Free the Children". In total there were 18,000 students and teachers from around the province attending the conference at Rogers Stadium.
Our day started off with a bang when the Balmoral group were selected to be filmed and interviewed by City TV. Paige Halex spoke eloquently about her excitement about the conference and getting going on helping the world to be a better place! She's a celebrity!
The conference offered a wonderful range of guest speakers on topics like the Environment, Self Esteem, and Volunteering. Some of the famous guest speakers we saw included the Kielbergers, Al Gore, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, actor and activist Martin Sheen and musical guests Hedley. It was an amazing and inspiring day!
