On Friday, February 27 and Saturday, Februray 28, group of 24 students gathered for the annual Hungry for Change 24-hour Fast.
As a distraction from their hunger pangs students played games in the cafeteria, listened to presentations by Oxfam volunteers and guest speakers who have volunteered their time in Africa. The event ended with a light breakfast.
Thanks to all the students who did such a good job of fund-raising - staff members, parents and student committee who planned, organized and supervised, local merchants who donated bottled water, juices and videos, and the guests who contributed their skills, their stories, and their food. A special thank-you to Ms. Gellatly for all the time spent planning and organizing this important event.
Taking part in this event educates students about issues facing the Third World. It also gives students a sense of personal empowerment - they know that they can make a difference in the world.
It was a memorable weekend for us all, which we hope can be repeated next year.
