DRAMA NEWS

Drama 2011-2012 featured two new plays for our zone's High School Drama Festival.

SENIOR DRAMA

The seniors presented Train Station at the festival and earned an Innovation Award. The dark comedy about faith.... and Sasquatch challenged the audience to consider the commitment of their spirituality in the face of a cataclysmic event. Who knew the Mayan calendar, Nostradamus and the folks who sell chemical toilets were on to something!

DRAMA 10
From September, the Grade 10 class created a GLEE inspired play about the aftermath of Vancouver's Stanley Cup run of 2011. What resulted has been surprising audiences and thrilling our community. RIOT: Reaction and Reconciliation, has been the result of Rob Walker's direction, lead writing and a cast of students recognizing that the work they are doing is about current events in their community. They have turned an ugly event into something beautiful and entertaining with this musical piece of social justice. Using created charactersand inspired by stories of the riot, the students are able to explore the choices made by many. The efforts of this group earned awards at the festival for Best (student designed) Choreography, Best Director, and the most rewarding to the students, BEST NEW PLAY!
