The Legacy of a Book
A Message from the Balmoral Library

The eleventh annual Legacy of a Book project is underway! The Balmoral Library, in partnership with the Balmoral Parent Advisory Committee, invites you to participate in the school’s tradition called The Legacy of a Book.

Each year, the Grade 10 students are asked to donate a fiction or non-fiction book of their choice to the school library on a volunteer basis. Each contributing student then signs a dedication plaquette that appears on the inside cover of the donated book. Each book chosen reflects the student’s interest. For example, athletes have donated books about their favourite sport; drama students have donated biographies of their favourite actors; art enthusiasts have presented books about inspirational artists; and this year, we are extending an invitation to students to donate books in their mother tongue to expand our international cultural awareness and fulfill some requirements of the Middle Years I. B. Program. Whatever the selection, the library is most appreciative of the donation.

The Legacy of a Book project allows students to contribute to the school’s collection and the Balmoral community by leaving behind a memento which reflects their personal interest. It places value on library books, and involves students in the library program and the school community. It also inspires readers who recognize the book donors as older students, friends, and role models.

As we continue with this tradition, we encourage you to give some consideration to selecting a title which you will be proud to leave as a legacy.

Donations can be dropped off at the Balmoral School Library anytime between now and the end of the school year. Dedication plaquettes will be provided.

Thank you for your support.
