ATHLETIC AWARDS
ATHLETIC CERTIFICATES
Awarded to students for their participation and commitment to a season in a sport.
ATHLETIC BLOCKS
SMALL BLOCK
Awarded to any athlete - no more than once - when the athlete has reached a minimum of 30 points awarded by their coaches (at a maximum of 10 points per major sport and 5 points per minor sport) collectively throughout their time at Balmoral/Carson.
LARGE BLOCK
Awarded to any athlete - no more than once - when the athlete has reached a minimum of 50 points awarded by their coaches (at a maximum of 10 points per major sport and 5 points per minor sport) collectively throughout their time at Balmoral/Carson.
DOUBLE BLOCK
Awarded to any athlete - no more than once - when the athlete has received a large block in their Grade 9 year and then receives a minimum of 24 points in their grade 10 year.
ATHLETIC SERVICE AWARDS
Service to the Athletic Department for officiating, score-keeping, time-keeping, managing, setting up and assisting with sports events is recognized through the Citizenship Awards. Students should see an Athletic Director if they are interested in volunteering.
SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
This award goes to a student whose athletic ability, leadership and conduct exemplifies the definition of sportsmanship. This is our school’s most prestigious athletic award.
OUTSTANDING ATHLETES AWARDS
Athlete of the Year awards are determined by the Athletic Council. Athletes receive points for each school sport they take part in and the athletes in each grade with the highest point totals for the year are considered for the award. Athletes of the Year candidates must have participated on 3 or more teams or were standouts on 2 teams; demonstrated both a high level of skill and significant leadership and are respected by their peers and by the faculty.
SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Scholar Athlete of the Year awards are determined by the Athletic Council. Athletes receive points for each school sport they take part in and the athletes in each grade with the highest point totals for the year are considered for the award. Scholar Athletes of the Year candidates are chosen based on the following criteria: students demonstrate a balance between their academic and athletic endeavors by participating on 2 or more teams while maintaining a high academic average; demonstrate both a high level of skill in athletics, significant leadership in the school community and are respected by their peers and by the faculty.
