4 Emergency Management

Emergency Management is also an aspect or element of Safe and Caring Schools.  Emergency Management refers to all unforeseen events that can negatively impact the school community. Schools that have, or are addressing, this aspect will have:

  • procedures for dealing with violent incidents
  • a threat assessment team and a mechanism for responding to direct and implied threats to students and the school community
  • an established process for inviting in the District Critical Incident Team
  • practised fire and earthquake drills and lockdown procedures
  • informed parents and staff of emergency student release procedures
  • co-ordinated its own efforts with the North Shore Emergency Preparedness Plan.

The attached three documents provide more information on drills and lockdown procedures.
