3 Violence Prevention Curriculum

Violence Prevention is one of the eight aspects of Safe and Caring Schools. Violence Prevention refers to pro-active activities that enhance resiliency, empathy and social skills. It also includes awareness of, and thoughtful responses to, issues such as bullying and sexual harassment.

Examples of Violence Prevention programs in North Vancouver schools are:

  • Roots of Empathy, students experiencing an infant's milestones through the introduction of a baby into the classroom.
  • c.a.r.e., a program dealing with inappropriate touches and unsafe situations for children in grades one to three
  • Second Step, an interactive program teaching social skills for children from grades one to seven
  • Focus on Harassment and Intimidation, series of lessons mapping out school-wide strategies and a continuum of appropriate responses for secondary schools.
  • Focus on Bullying, a prevention program similar to Focus on Harassment and Intimidation but designed for the elementary school community.
