Math 44: Teaching for Proficiency

Math 44 is a base document for elementary teachers of mathematics that aligns with the 2007 Ministry of Education Mathematics IRP, and incorporates best practices in the teaching of mathematics and activities to support the learning process. Math 44 focuses on 10 proficiency standards that students must have in order to be successful learners of mathematics and provides a framework for experiencing mathematics concepts within the classroom setting.

Reading 44: A Core Reading Framework

Reading 44 is a classroom program written by the teachers of North Vancouver. >This resource >outlines an explicit classroomreading program forall studentsK-10. The heart of the Reading 44 program lies in the “Daily Dozen”, twelve reading strategies that good readers use. Instructional activities and graphic organizers are included in the document to encourage diverse learners to recognize, learn and practice these twelve strategies in order to become effective, critical readers.

Writing 44: A Core Writing Framework

Our newest document, Writing 44, is designed to provide teachers with a practical resource for the teaching of writing. The “Eight Skills of Writing”, which identify key elements in effective writing, and the accompanying instructional activities and graphic organizers, offer teachers creative ideas and suggestions for classroom writing instruction.

Early Language and Literacy

These companion documents were written for early primary educators to provide a learning continuum for the development of expressive language fluency and the acquisition of early literacy skills. Both resources present strategies, activities and interventions to be facilitated in both a play-based Kindergarten and a socially interactive Grade 1 classroom.

Introducing Inspirations 44

Inspirations 44 is our Full Day Kindergarten resource, of play-based activities and instruction. Fully aligned with the goals of the Early Learning Framework and Primary Programs, Inspirations 44 provides a rich array of classroom experiences for an extended Kindergarten day. Developing curriculum, language, social and community connections are at the heart of the child’s exploration and practice. The framework is structured to meet the needs and deepen the learning of a diverse population of students.
