Assessment and Reporting of Student Progress
Assessment is the systematic gathering of data about students' knowledge or skills, either through informal methods, such as classroom observations, or more formal methods such as class assignments, projects, and tests. Evaluation refers to the process of making judgments about students' knowledge and skills which are then summarized and reported at various stages of the school year.
The North Vancouver School District supports a model of Assessment For, As and Of Learning. Assessment may be used by teachers to inform and guide instruction (assessment for learning), it may used to provide feedback to students to improve their own learning (assessment as learning), or it may be used to inform students and their parents how well they are doing in relation to BC Ministry of Education prescribed learning outcomes (assessment of learning).
For more information about classroom assessment practices, please refer to the Ministry of Education website.
