Course Synopsis/Description
: This course is designed to extend the learning outcomes of the Ministry Prescribed Planning 10 curriculum and support all students in acquiring the attributes of the BC Graduate. In the areas of :

Intellectual Development: Students will develop the understanding of how to make connections to the relevance of their developing competencies/skills in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science to preparing for life after high school. This course will help students to develop the ability to think critically and to solve problems, using information to develop opinions and make sound judgements and decisions.

Human and Social Development: Students will continue to examine and demonstrate the importance of developing the knowledge /skills and competencies:

  • to develop positive habits they need to be healthy individuals responsible for their physical and emotional well-being.
  • to become socially responsible citizens, respecting diversity and the rights of others.
  • to contribute to the broader community and participate in improving their own and others quality of life

Career Development: Student will develop the knowledge, skills and self-confidence as well as acquire the attitude to be self-directed, life-long learners, able to set individual short and long term goals, demonstrate initiative and responsibility in pursuing those goals in school, at home, at work and in the community. As well students will, continue to examine and explore career pathways appropriate to their likes, interests, skills and knowledge, and continue to demonstrate the skills of working safely, effectively, individually and collaboratively.

Rationale: Planning 11 addresses important aspects of the Ministry of Education's Graduation Program (2004). The main goal is to support all students in acquiring attributes in the areas of intellectual, numeracy and social and career development as outlined more specifically in the description of the course. This course may be seen as a complement to all areas of academic studies in which the student is enrolled and a unique and valuable contribution in their personal , intellectual and career development in their Grade 11 academic year.

Guidance, planning and preparation provided in this course, will guide students in acquiring work and volunteer experience as required for  their Graduation Transition Document.
