Leadership

The leadership of the Elementary Band and Strings program allows for administration, parent, and teacher input into the leadership and structure of the program. The three key educators who have the most responsibility for the program are Bryn Roberts, Yolande Martinello, and Lasse Leslie.

Bryn Roberts is the Assistant Superintendent of the North Vancouver School District.

Yolande Martinello is the Principal of Fine Arts, North Vancouver School District.  She is the Budget Officer for the Elementary Band and Strings Program and liaises between teachers, parents, and the Board.

Lasse Leslie is the teacher helper or program coordinator who helps with the many facets of these programs.  In addition to working directly with teachers, parents, and administrators, she looks after the School District's instrument room.  She also helps in many capacities when asked by teachers and parents.

The Elementary Band and Strings Steering Committee was formed in 1991 when the program became a fee-based program in the elementary schools. The committee is comprised of seven administrators, a teacher, and a parent. The Steering Committee has very committed members.  Many of the administrators and teachers have been on this committee since its inception in 1991.

The teachers are a strong component of the leadership of the Elementary Band and Strings program. Each month they meet with the Principal of Fine Arts to discuss operational concerns, professional development, and instruction. A teacher is chosen to chair the meetings each year. The staff meeting is held on the second Tuesday of each month.
