Introduction to Eslha7an
Eslha7an provides aboriginal youth and adults with an opportunity to complete academic, self-paced courses in a small group setting.

Purpose of Eslha7an
Eslha7an supports aboriginal students who have been out of school for a period of time, or who have had difficulty succeeding in a mainstream school setting, towards high school graduation or earning their Dogwood diploma. Eslha7an offers flexibility for both youth and adult learners and enhances its program offerings with celebration and exploration of native culture.

Eligibility criteria/referral procedures
Eslha7an students must be aboriginal, but can belong to any First Nation  in Canada. Students interested in the program can inquire with their secondary school counsellor or the aboriginal secondary school counsellor for the Squamish Nation (604.980.4553). Referrals also come from the North Vancouver School District’s secondary school counsellor who can be reached at 604.903.3278.

How do I know Eslha7an is right for a student?
Aboriginal students, both youth and adult, who need a smaller educational environment focussed on self-paced programs would benefit from Eslha7an.

Is there a wait list for Eslha7an? Can a student enter at any time of year?
Students may enter at one of several points in the year. There may be a wait list.

Does Eslha7an  follow standard school hours?
No. Eslha7an is structured into two learning blocks per day, morning and afternoon sessions to offer greater flexibility for students.

What kind of experience or special qualifications do Eslha7an teachers have?
Eslha7an’s academic teachers are members of the NVSD teaching staff. Other staff members are employed by the Squamish Nation and assist with First Nations culture, language and art classes.

Are any other organizations or professionals associated with Eslha7an?
Eslha7an is run jointly by the North Vancouver School District and the Squamish Nation. The program is affiliated with the Stitsma Employment/trades program.
