Distributed Learning

The NVSD Distributed Learning School operates as a
10 month program from September to June.

Please note that part of the registration process includes an "activation assignment".
The links for these assignments are found on the Activation Assignment page.

The North Vancouver Distributed Learning School (NVDLS) provides both youth and adults an alternate way to complete Grade 10, 11, and 12 Ministry of Education courses leading to high school graduation. Students access courses in an online environment and complete their work both independently and together with their peers and teacher using web tools, course chat rooms, and e-mail. Students also have access to the Distributed Learning Centre which provides face-to-face interaction with teachers, a computer lab, tutoring support, and test and exam invigilation. The Centre’s hours of operation and teacher availability are posted on the Distributed Learning website.

Successful online students are self-motivated, comfortable with technology, and thrive in a self-paced environment. Students must have access to a computer and the Internet. The North Vancouver Distributed Learning School allows students to complete online courses in combination with their face-to-face courses in a mainstream high school and also allows them the flexibility to accomodate extracurricular schedules.

WHAT ARE ONLINE COURSES?

Online courses in North Vancouver are regular high school graduation courses that provide students with an alternate method of delivery. Students must have access to a computer and the Internet.

With this option students are able to complete courses:
            • from any location they choose
(some exams must be completed in person at the DL Centre).
            • at the pace they choose.
            • at the time of day they choose.

It is important to remember that while there is a great deal of independence expected of students, there are regularly scheduled times that teachers are available for assistance at the Distributed Learning Centre.

TEACHERS PROVIDE

           • a structure to the course
           • learning opportunities
           • direction as students proceed through the course
           • assistance (via email, chat, online tools, face to face in the DL Centre)
           • assessment (assignments, quizzes, tests…)
           • an environment for communication and instruction.

If you think this sort of course might work for you, please refer to the section entitled Is Learning Online for You?
